Local Italian Bakery becomes a Christmas Store!

Fabio Battaglia, manager at Francesca Bakery is so proud of his family’s cannoli, the store is holding it’s 2nd annual “12 Days of Cannoli” promotion in support of the SickKids, “Milk and Cookies” fundraiser. “We decided this year to give back to the hospital because our family and the everyone at the bakery really believes in supporting the community – especially young ones.” He continues, “Our cannoli promotion was very popular last year, so bringing both the 12 Days of Cannoli and Milk and Cookies together was really a no-brainer!”

But that’s not all that’s happening at Francesca Bakery this Holiday season, and you’ll know that as soon as you step into the store, located just north of the Scarborough Town Centre at McCowan and Invergordon, just above the 401. Visually this bustling bakery has been turned into a Christmas store! Panettone are everywhere, some imported and some made by the hands of Francesco Battaglia, expert pastry chef with live yeast he brought back from Italy himself.

Not only are the cookies, cakes, and cupcakes decorated with Holiday designs but everywhere you turn there is something festive. The gingerbread cookies look amazing and fun – like somebody really made them with love.

Chocolates, cupcakes, pastries add to the Christmas spirit with new flavours, colourful toppings and traditional Holiday twists that make the more than 200 hand-crafted  items on display even more tantalizing. If you venture to the cafe, you’ll also be able to see an elaborate array of marzipan fruit and vegetables. These traditional Sicilian edible ornaments are shaped by hand from almond paste, then painted in layers using natural food colouring in spray bottles and paint brushes. They are amazing to look at as their life-like attributes can actually fool you into thinking it’s real fruit and vegetables on display.

Angelo Battaglia the founder of the company is also busy in the bread baking, where Francesca offers Italian and European breads including ciabatta, calabrese, focaccia, sourdough and by request – even these amazing marble rye loaves:

The bakery is also ready for the huge increase in Holiday season orders for catering, cakes, cannoli and even our tasty hot table which is open 7 days a week. We have a special catering menu just for Christmas so if interested, call our catering department at 416-299-1174 as soon as you can, because it gets really busy.
